The Real Junk Food Project Manchester is a not for profit community interest company. We source food that would otherwise go to waste, cook it into lovely meals (with a focus on health and nutrition), and serve our meals to a huge range of people on a pay-as-you-feel basis.

We have been building our project since 2014, and have gone from a small group of volunteers, to now having 3 paid staff and a wonderful team of supporters. We currently operate as a pop-up / mobile project, but will be opening Manchester’s first waste food pay-as-you-feel restaurant in just a few months!

The aims of our project are;

  • To significantly reduce food waste and its impacts in and around Manchester
  • To offer access to enough food, and healthy nutritious food to everyone who needs it
  • To raise awareness, knowledge and skills about food waste, sustainable food, and healthy diets, as well as providing support for vulnerable people
  • To tackle social isolation and support people back into work.

We’ve come a long way in the last couple of years, and currently need some Tech Support. We are looking for a tech savvy person, familiar with WordPress templates, HTML and CSS to help redevelop our website, and with ongoing support with email and web issues. Familiarity with java/jquery, FTP and cPanel based hosting would be a bonus.

We are hoping for a flexible commitment to support the project, which may vary depending on what we’re up to (and what bits of the website we’ve broken!). As we’re currently redeveloping the website, initially a commitment of around 5-10 hours a week would be ideal, and this can be taken on flexibly around other commitments.
